SULAWESI AND HALMAHERA BIRDING TOUR

Itinerary

 Day 1 : Manado Airport >> Tangkoko Nature Reserve

Arrival into Manado Airport, transfer to Tangkoko Nature Reserve. With a few birding along the way.

 

Days 2-3 : Tangkoko National Park ( full day Birding )

We will begin early birding today. Tangkoko National Park, which has plenty of opportunities to see a number of Sulawesi endemic bird species such as:

Green-backed Kingfisher, Lilac-cheek Kingfisher, Sulawesi-dwarf Kingfisher, Ruddy kingfisher, knobbed Hornbill, Ochre bellied-boobook, Gray-rumped Treeswift, Azure-rumped Parrot, Pale-blue Monarch, Ashy Woodpecker, Yellow-billed malkoha, Purple-Winged Roller, Bay Coucal, Phillippne Megapode, Isabelline Bush-hen, Sulawesi Babbler, Bay Coucal, Sulawesi Hawk-Eagle, White-breasted Woodswallow, Spot-tailed Goshawk, White-bellied Imperial-Pigeon, Sulawesi Goshawk, Sulawesi Masked-Owl, Sulawesi Nightjar, Speckled Boobook, Sulawesi Scops-Owl, Great Eared-Nightjar, Yellow-breasted  Racquet-tail, Sulawesi hanging Parrot, Sulawesi Myna, Hair crested Drongo.

Including: Mammals. The Crested Black Macaques, Spectral Tarsier and Cus-cus Bear.

 

Day 4 : Temboan Hill >> Mangrove.

we will have an early start with a drive of about 20 minutes to our next birding destination, Temboan hill. This is a great area view point next to the road where we will try to spotted some of the birds such as:

Yellow-breasted  Racquet-tail, Ornate Lorikeet, Golden - mantled Racquet-tail, Sulawesi cicadabird, Pygmy hanging Parrot, White - necked myna, White - faced cukoo-Dove, White - bellied Imperial-Pigeon, White - shouldered Triller, White - rumped Cukooshrike, Sulawesi cicadabird, Pied Cuckooshrike, Grey-headed Imperial pigeon, Sulawesi-dwarf Hornbill.

We will head back to homestay to have lunch and rest a bit. After lunch we will take a boat ride to a mangrove area to look for Great-billed Kingfisher, and some more bird species such as:

 Sulawesi serpent-Eagle, Kentish plover, pacific Reef-heron, Sacred Kingfishe, Pied Imperial-pigeon, Gray-necked green Pigeon, Pink-necked green Pigeo, Whimbrel, Sacred Kingfisher, Blue-rock thrush Gray-tailed tattler.

 

Day 5  : Tomohon >> Mahawu

 Exploring birds at their most active time. Bird species to spot:

Scaly-breasted Kingfisher, Sulawesi-blue Flycatcher, Sulphur-bellied Whistler, Black-crowned White eye, Lemon-bellied white-Eye, Warbling white eye,  Mountain Tailorbird, Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker, Superb fruit dove, Turquoise Flycatcher, Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher, Sulawesi cuckoo Dove, Chestnut Munia, Black face Munia, Scaly breasted Munia, Gray wagtail, Snowy-Browed Flycatcher, Citrine Canary-Flycatcher, , Sulawesi Myzomela, Pigmy Woodpecker, White-breasted waterhen, Barred Rail, Sunda Teal, Wandering Whistling-Duck, White-browed Crake, Dusky Moohen, Eurasian Moorhen, Purple Swamphen, Javan Pond Heron, Purple Heron.

 

Day 6: Tomohon >> Manado Airport.

Early morning Check out we will driving to Manado Sam Ratulangi Airport Manado. Flight to Sultan Babulah Airport Ternate. Arrive in Ternate, we will cross to Sidangoli Halmahera. we will start birding in Sidangoli area.

Sombre Kingfisher,  Halmahera Paradise Kingfisher, Blue and white Kingfisher,  Molucan   Flycatcher, Molucan Scops Owl. And much more

 

Day 7 : Sidangoli

Early morning check out we will birding along the road at Sidangoli (full day birding)  Bird species:

North Molucan Pitta, Halmahera Paradise Crow, Beach Kingfisher, Moluccan Owlet Nightjar, Pacific Baza, Chattering Lory, Variable Goshawk, Grey-headed Fruit-Dove, Moluccan Goshawk. Much more

 

Day 8 : Aketajawe National Park

Early morning after breakfast birding in Aketajawe lolobata afternoon check out drive to Subaim check in Balis Homestay. bird species such as :

Standarwing bird of paradise, Goliath Coucal,  Dusky Brown Oriole, North   Golden Bulbul, Moluccan Goshhawk, Mustached Treeswift, Common Paradise Kingfisher,  Common Cicadabird Beach Kingfisher,  Long Billed Crow, Gurney’s Eagle, Mollucan Cuckoo, Moluccan Dwarf Kingfisher,  Golden monarch,  Sombre Kingfisher,  Rusty breasted Couckostrike.

 

Day 9 : Mt. Uni-Uni

Early morning after breakfast,  drive to Mountain Uni-Uni, search for Cinnamon bellied and Moluccan Imperial pigeon, Chattering Lory, Blyt’s Hornbill, Halmahera Boobook, Cinnamon Bellied Imperial Pigeon, Goliat Coucal, Moustached Treeswift. and other endemic birds.

 

Day 10 : Mt. Roni

Early morning after breakfast, drive to Mountain Roni. Bird species such as: Gurney’s eagle, Halmahera Oriole, Metallic Starling, Moluccan Starling, Flame-breasted Flowerpecker, Molucan Cuckoo-Shrike, Purple Roller, Rufous-bellied Triller, Golden Bulbul, Drab Whistler, Molucccan Hanging-Parrot, Maluccan Boobook, Halmahera Swiftlet, Eclectus Parrot, Nicobar Pigeon, Red-flanked lorikeet. After birding  drive to Sidangoli or Sofifi, than cross to Ternate by Speed boat, we will have lunch in Ternate after lunch looking for Ternate Pitta.

 

Day 11 : Ternate >> Palu

Early Morning after breakfast Check out and we will drive to Ternate Airport  Flight to Palu. Arrival in palu we will drive to Lore lindu national Park takes about five hours to get lore lindu national park. Birding on the way look for Vented Myna, Savana Nightjar,and more.

 

Day 12 – 13 : Lore Lindu National Park>> Anaso Track>>Lake Tambing

We will exploring two full days birding in this area to search for the bird species such as: Geomalia, Sulawesi Heleia, Sulawesi Cicadabird, Sulawesi Crested Myna, Sulawesi Drongo, Purple-bearded Bee-eater, Sulawesi Leaf Warlber, Sulawesi Triller, Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher, Blue-faced Parrotfinch, Red Eared Fruit Dove, Pigmy Cuckoo-Shrike, White Eared Myza, Dark-Eared Myza, Fiery-Browed Myna,  Sulawesi Fantail, White-Bellied Imperial Pigeon, Citrine Lorikeet, Cinabar Bookbook, Heinrichia/Great Shortwing, Hylocetria, Sombre Pigeon, Satanic Nightjar, Sulawesi Thrush, Sulawesi Swiftlet,  Ivory Backed Wood-Swallow, Blue-Fronted Blue Flycatcher, Little Pied Flycatcher, Rufous Bellied Eagle, Sulawesi Hanging Parrot,  Grosbeak Myna, Streak-Headed Dark-eye,  Snowy Browed Flycatcher, Cerulean Cuckooshrike, Maroon Backed Whistler,  Small Sparrow – Hawk, Meyers or Yellow-and-green Lorikeet, Crimson-Crowned Flower-Pecker, and much more.

 

Day 14 : Lore Lindu >> Palu

Early Morning after Breakfast we still birding around the park to looking for the birds we might have missed on the previous day. Then after Lunch check out return to palu. Along the way we can see. Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Golden-bellied Gerygone, Lesser Coucal. and more

 

Day 15 : Palu

Morning after breakfast check out transfer to Palu Airport
