SULAWESI HALMAHERA BIRDING TOUR

Day 1 : International Arrival in Makassar airport of Sultan Hassanudin.

Arrival in Makassar, we will driving about 1,5 hours to Ramang-ramang Ecolodge . Afternoon we will birding around the secondary forest to look for bird species :

Olive Backed sunbird, Sulawesi black Pigeon, Sulawesi Cuckoo Dove, Black Kite, Black sunbird, Sulawesi Masked Owl, White Rumped Cuckooshrike, Sulawesi Dwarf Hornbil, Sulawesi Goshawk.

Overnight : Ramang-Ramang Ecolodge

Day 2 : Ramang-Ramang > Karenta lime stone Forest

Early morning after breakfast, drive up about 1 hours to karenta lime stone forest we will spend about few hours to look for bird species :

Black Headed Kingfisher, Black ring White-Eye, Sulawesi Dwarf hornbill, Makassar Myna, Piping Crow, Sulawesi Streak flycatcher, Rusty-backed Thrush.

In the afternoon we will driving to Makassar.

Day 3 : Makassar Airport  >  Fight to Palu

Early Morning after breakfast, check out and we will drive to sultan hassanudin airport flight to palu. Arrive in palu then drive to Lorelindu National Park takes about five hours to get to lore lindu national park. Birding on the way to look for bird species :

Vented Myna, Savana Nightjar, and much  more.

Overnight : Lore Lindu National Lodge

Day 4 – 5 : Lore Lindu National Park >  Anaso Track > Lake Tambing

We will exploring two full days birding in this area, to search for the bird species :

Geomalia, Sulawesi Heleia, Sulawesi Cicadabird, Sulawesi Crested Myna, Sulawesi Drongo, Purple-bearded Bee-eater, Sulawesi Leaf Warlber, Sulawesi Triller, Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher, Blue-faced Parrotfinch, Red Eared Fruit Dove, Pigmy Cuckoo-Shrike, White Eared Myza, Dark-Eared Myza, Fiery-Browed Myna,  Sulawesi Fantail, White-Bellied Imperial Pigeon, Citrine Lorikeet, Cinabar Bookbook, Heinrichia/Great Shortwing, Hylocetria, Sombre Pigeon, Satanic Nightjar, Sulawesi Thrush, Sulawesi Swiftlet,  Ivory Backed Wood-Swallow, Blue-Fronted Blue Flycatcher, Little Pied Flycatcher, Rufous Bellied Eagle, Sulawesi Hanging Parrot,  Grosbeak Myna, Streak-Headed Dark-eye,  Snowy Browed Flycatcher, Cerulean Cuckooshrike, Maroon Backed Whistler,  Small Sparrow – Hawk, Meyers or Yellow-and-green Lorikeet, Crimson-Crowned Flower-Pecker, and much more.

Day 6 : Lore Lindu >  Palu

Early Morning after Breakfast, we still birding around the park to search for the birds we might have missed on the previous day. Then after Lunch check out return to palu. Along the way we can see.

Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Golden-bellied Gerygone, Lesser Coucal. much more.

Overnight : Hotel Palu

Day 7 : Palu >  Flight to Manado >  Kotamobagu

Morning check out drive to Palu Airport and flight back to Manado Airport. Arrive in Manado than drive about five hours to Kotamobagu

Day 8-9: Kotamobagu > Mt. Ambang > Tomohon

Early morning after breakfast 4: 30 am, we will visit Sanctuary Tambun, Maleo Bird. Before we arrive in Kotamobagu we have a few birding spot to look for bird species :

Black kite, Sulawesi serpent Eagle, Black Eagle,Yellow -creasted Cockatoo, Ornate Lorikeet, Sombre Pigeon, Golden-mantled Racquet-tail, Yellow-breasted Racquet-tail, Vinous-breasted parrowhawk, Red-eared Fruit-Dove, Matinan Flycatcher, Malia, Sulawesi Fantail, Purple-bearded Bee-eater, Pied Stilt, Oberholser’s Fruit Dove, Sulawesi Ground Dove, Sulawesi Drongo. After birding in Tambun,  we will drive to Tomohon.

Overnight : in Tomohon.

Day 10  : Tomohon ( Mahawu )

Full day birding in Tomohon Mahawu area. Bird species:

Scaly-breasted Kingfisher, Sulawesi Myzomela, Sulawesi-blue Flycatcher, Sulphur-bellied Whistler,  Black-crowned White eye, Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker,  Superb fruit-dove,  Red eared fruit-dove, Sulawesi Cuckoo-Dove,  White bellied Imperial-Pigeon, Turquoise Flycatcher, Snowy - Browed Flycatcher, Citrine Canary-Flycatcher,  Blak Kite, Spotted Harrier, Sulawesi Serpent-Eagle,Sulawesi Hawk-Eagle, Wandering Whistling-Duck, Sunda Teal. Much more

Day 11-12 :  Tangkoko Nature Reserve ( Two full Days Birding )

We will begin early today and tomorrow. Tangkoko Nature Reserve, which have plenty of opportunities to see a number of Sulawesi endemic bird species such as:

Green-backed Kingfisher,  Sulawesi lilac Kingfisher,  Sulawesi-dwarf Kingfisher,  Sulawesi pygmy Woodpecker, knobbed Hornbill, Ochre bellied-boobook, White-necked myna, Azure-rumped Parrot,  Pale-blue Monarch,  Ashy Woodpecker,  Yellow-billed malkoha, Purple-winged Roller, Sulawesi Babbler, Bay Coucal,  Sulawesi Hawk-Eagle,  Spot-tailed Goshawk,  Sulawesi Goshawk,  Rusty-backed Thrush,  Sulawesi Masked-Owl, Sulawesi Nightjar, Speckled Boobook, and much more.

Including: Mammals. The Crested Black Macaques, Spectral Tarsier and Cus-cus Bear.

Day 13 :  Temboan hill >  Mangrove

we will have an early start with a drive of about 25 minutes to our next birding destination, Temboan hill. This is a great area view point next to the road where we will try to spotted some of the birds such as:

Yellow-breasted  Racquet-tail, Ornate Lorikeet,  Golden - mantled Racquet-tail, Sulawesi cicadabird,  Pygmy hanging Parrot, Sulawesi hanging parrot, White - necked myna, White - faced cukoo-Dove,  White - bellied Imperial-Pigeon, Gray-headed Imperial-pigeon, White - shouldered Triller,  White - rumped Cukooshrike, Sulawesi Myna,  Sulawesi-dwarf Hornbill, Sulawesi serpent-Eagle. and more.

We will head back to homestay to have lunch and rest a bit. After lunch we will take a boat to a mangrove area to look for Great-billed Kingfisher, and bird species such as:

Ospey, Kentish plover, pacific Reef-heron, Black-naped Tern, Sacred Kingfisher, Pied Imperial-pigeon, Gray-necked green Pigeon, Pink-necked green Pigeon, Whimbrel, Blue rock-Thrush, Grey-tailed tattler, Much more.

Day 14 : Tangkoko  National Park > Manado Airpot – Ternate Airport

Manado Sam Ratulangi Airport Manado. Flight to Sultan Babulah Airport Ternate. Arrive in Ternate, we will cross to Sidangoli Halmahera, 45 minutes by speed boat. Arrive in Sidangoli, before check in Royal Mix Soffi we will start birding in Sidangoli area. bird species:

Sombre Kingfisher,  Halmahera Paradise Kingfisher, Blue and white Kingfisher,  Molucan   Flycatcher, Molucan Scops Owl. And much more

Day 15 : Sidangoli

Early morning check out we will birding along the road at Sidangoli (full day birding)  Bird species:

North Molucan Pitta, Halmahera Paradise Crow, Beach Kingfisher, Moluccan Owlet Nightjar, Pacific Baza, Chattering Lory, Variable Goshawk, Grey-headed Fruit-Dove, Moluccan Goshawk. Much more

Overnight :  Binagara

Day 16 : Aketajawe National Park

Early morning after breakfast birding in Aketajawe lolobata afternoon check out drive to Subaim check in Balis Homestay. bird species such as :

Standarwing bird of paradise, Goliath Coucal,  Dusky Brown Oriole, North   Golden Bulbul, Moluccan Goshhawk, Mustached Treeswift, Common Paradise Kingfisher,  Common Cicadabird Beach Kingfisher,  Long Billed Crow, Gurney’s Eagle, Mollucan Cuckoo, Moluccan Dwarf Kingfisher,  Golden monarch,  Sombre Kingfisher,  Rusty breasted Couckostrike and much more

Overnight : Balis homestay

Day 17 : Mt. Uni-Uni

Early morning after breakfast,  drive to Mountain Uni-Uni, main Target is Cinnamon bellied and Mollucan Imperial pigeon, Chattring Lory, Blyt’s Hornbill, Halmahera Boobook, Cinnamon Bellied Imperial Pigeon, Goliat Coucal, Moustached Treeswift. and other endemic birds.

Overnight : Balis Homestay Subaim

Day 18 : Mt. Roni

Early morning after breakfast, drive to Mountain Roni. Bird species such as: Gurney’s eagle, Halmahera Oriole, Metallic Starling, Moluccan Starling, Flame-breasted Flowerpecker, Molucan Cuckoo-Shrike, Purple Roller, Rufous-bellied Triller, Golden Bulbul, Drab Whistler, Molucccan Hanging-Parrot, Maluccan Boobook, Halmahera Swiftlet, Eclectus Parrot, Nicobar Pigeon, Red-flanked lorikeet. After birding  drive to Sidangoli or Sofifi, than cross to Ternate by Speed boat, we will have lunch in Ternate after lunch looking for Ternate Pitta.

Day 19 : Ternate

Morning After breakfast Check out Transfer to Ternate Airport.
